OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad working as expected.

As a newbie to SoftRAID the setup process took a bit longer and was a little more involved than I expected, especially factoring in the certification of each drive before creating the RAID volume.

But, once setup, and the Mac Spotlight and Energy Settings tweaked the unit has been running well with no real issues. I was able to extract the contents of my old Drobo just before its chassis gave up completely so I would say the switch has been a success.

The unit is speedier with access and writes than I thought I might get for the drives I used so that has also been a nice surprise.
